Jet Ice is involved in a study with Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) to establish standards and validate best practices when it comes to ice quality and performance.

The fundamental component of this study is data. This 5 year research project requires routine ice operation data coming from:

  • Ice Depth Checks

  • Flood Logs

  • Plant Readings

  • Water Quality Tests

All key areas to determine what factors contribute to a great sheet of ice, and how changing various factors impact the performance and quality of the playing surface.

In order to collect these readings in a central spot and run trends and analytics on this data, Jet Ice and TMU have decided to utilize SUB-ZERO as a part of their research study at TMU’s Mattamy Athletic Centre (Formerly Maple Leaf Gardens).

SUB-ZERO is a software tool designed to help ice rinks with their daily operations. Since its announcement in 2023 over 300 rinks across North America (from community rinks to 20,000 seat arenas) use this platform for ice depths, flood logs, plant readings, ice resurfacer checklists, and more.

SUB-ZERO is a spin off of the RFAM software built in 2016 by Marmak in partnership with the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) designed to help organizations with asset management for non core assets (buildings and open spaces).

Willing SUB-ZERO users may decide to opt-in and share their data (anonymously) for the benefit of the study.
